Learn by Doing.

At Lakeshore School of Innovation, learning extends beyond traditional classroom instruction. Through project-based learning (PBL), students actively explore real-world questions, challenges, and problems while building the knowledge and skills they need for the future.

Rather than simply learning information and demonstrating it on a test, students have opportunities to apply what they know, create meaningful work, collaborate with others, and solve authentic problems.

What Does Project-Based Learning Look Like?

Project-based learning puts students at the center of the learning process. Depending on the project, students may:

  • Investigate a real-world question or challenge
  • Work independently and collaboratively
  • Apply learning from multiple subject areas
  • Conduct research and evaluate information
  • Design, create, test, and improve solutions
  • Use technology and other tools to support their work
  • Connect with community partners, businesses, or mentors
  • Present their work to authentic audiences
  • Reflect on their learning and growth

Building the Skills Students Need Beyond School

At LSI, projects aren't just about completing an assignment. They provide opportunities for students to develop the skills they'll use in college, careers, and everyday life.

Through project-based learning, students strengthen:

Critical Thinking
Analyzing information, asking questions, and approaching complex problems from different perspectives.

Collaboration & Teamwork
Working effectively with others, contributing ideas, communicating, and sharing responsibility.

Real-World Problem Solving
Applying knowledge and skills to situations that don't always have one clear answer.

Technology Fluency
Using modern tools and technology to research, create, communicate, and design solutions.

Adaptability & Resilience
Responding to challenges, revising ideas, learning from setbacks, and trying again.

The Community Is Our Classroom

One of the most important parts of the LSI approach is connecting learning to the world beyond school.

Local businesses, organizations, professionals, and community mentors can provide students with real-world challenges, authentic audiences, professional feedback, and opportunities to see how their learning connects to future careers and their community.

These experiences help students understand not only what they are learning, but why it matters.

Students Take an Active Role

Project-based learning asks students to take greater ownership of their education.

With guidance and support from LSI instructors, students learn to make decisions, manage their work, reflect on their progress, respond to feedback, and become increasingly independent learners.

The goal isn't simply to complete a project. It's to help students become confident learners, effective collaborators, creative problem solvers, and future-ready graduates.

Learn by Doing. Lead by Design.

At Lakeshore School of Innovation, students aren't just preparing for what's next. They're developing the skills and experiences to help shape it.
