Why take Advanced Placement courses?

The first thing to consider is that AP courses are designed to help you develop and hone the skills you’ll need throughout your college years. Excelling in an AP course will set you apart from the competition when you apply to the university of your dreams. Moreover, a truly tangible benefit is that you can save time and money by earning college credits through the AP exams before you even step foot on campus.

Students who take longer to graduate from a public college or university typically pay up to $19,000 for each additional year. Students attending private institutions might expect to incur $26,197 for each additional year. Success in Advanced Placement coursework represents an important savings of your time and money.

AP credits may reduce the cost of your tuition, or may allow you to pursue a second and third major.  You may also receive sophomore standing during your freshmen year, which allows you to sign up for classes earlier than your peers, giving you the edge when it comes to classes in high demand.  These are just a few of the many reasons why you may wish to pursue rigorous AP college level coursework in high school.

Which Colleges and Universities Accept AP Credit?

Nearly 3000 institutions grant up to a year of credit for a sufficient number of qualifying AP grades.  AP credit policy info for most colleges can be found HERE.

The Right Preparation for the Modern Marketplace:

In today's information-based economy, a college education is a necessity, not a luxury. However, a study from the U.S. Department of Education found that of the students who entered college in 2008:

Only 60 percent had attained a bachelor's degree after six years.

About one-third (33 percent) had not attained any degree and were no longer enrolled after six years

As you prepare for the next step, you need to ask yourself—is the end goal of college admission enough? What can be done today to develop the tools you need to succeed in college?

If you think you’ve got what it takes to succeed in an AP course at Lincoln reach out to your counselor or one of our AP teachers and they’ll help you take the next step:
