MPSD is committed to creating a safe learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. Our District Safety Team (DST) and building safety teams implement best practices in emergency response using the K12 Standard Response Protocol (SRP).
Five SRP Protocols:
SECURE
LOCKDOWN
EVACUATE
SHELTER
HOLD
These action-based protocols are taught and practiced with students, staff, and first responders throughout the year. Learn more at: iloveuguys.org
Monthly Safety Drills
Each month throughout the school year, all Manitowoc Public Schools will train on one of the five responses. Each training is designed to create knowledge, answer questions, and build familiarity for all students, staff and visitors. Please take time each month to ask your child what safety response protocol they practiced and see if they have questions or ideas about how these safety steps work and how they could be used in other places beyond school.
Parents/Guardians During Emergencies
DO NOT call or rush to the school DO NOT contact your child via text or social media DO wait for official updates from MPSD or emergency services
Staff and student cell phone use during an emergency should be limited and used only for emergency calls. Noise from a phone or conversation could alert a suspect should one be nearby. In an emergency, rely only on official communication from school or public safety officials, including information about reunification with your child.
MPSD will communicate through:
Automated calls
Email
Text messages (opt-in required)
District Website
Press releases
Emergency services
Keep your contact info updated by completing the annual update in IC.
If You’re Visiting During a School Emergency
Immediately follow the direction of MPSD staff.
Move to the nearest supervised area and remain calm.
Visitor Expectations
Who is considered a visitor? Anyone not on the building schedule for that date/time.
When Entering the Building:
Use the main entrance intercom to request access.
State your name and reason for visiting.
Going Beyond the Front Office
Bring Photo ID. All first-time visitors must show a valid ID.
MPSD uses the Raptor Visitor Management System:
ID is scanned and checked against a national sex offender database.
A photo badge will be printed for cleared visitors.
Wear your visitor badge at all times and return it upon exit.
Unknown visitors without a badge may trigger a LOCKDOWN and police response.
Visitors without ID will wait in the office until approved by administration.
