Welcome to Stangel Elementary
A New Chapter, Rooted in History
Stangel Elementary is proud to begin a new chapter in its long history of serving students and families in the Manitowoc community.
The Stangel building has played several roles in the Manitowoc Public School District over the years. Originally serving as an elementary school, it later became home to McKinley Academy. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, Stangel once again welcomes elementary students through its doors.
Today, Stangel Elementary is a K–4 school where students learn, grow, build relationships, and develop a strong foundation for the years ahead. Our staff is committed to creating a welcoming and supportive environment where every student feels known, valued, and ready to succeed.
As part of the Manitowoc Public School District, Stangel students are proudly united with students across the district as Ships—building connections and a shared sense of belonging from their earliest years in school.

A Legacy Worth Celebrating
Stangel has a proud history of serving generations of Manitowoc students and families.
Originally home to the Stangel Stars, the building later became home to McKinley Academy, continuing its role as a place for learning and student growth.
Now, Stangel is returning to its roots as an elementary school. Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, a new generation of students will walk through its doors as Ships, building new traditions while becoming part of a story that began generations before them.
From Stars to Ships, Stangel's story continues.
