SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH PROCESS

The MPSD Board of Education hired School Exec Connect to assist in recruiting candidates for a highly qualified, energetic, visionary and creative Interim Superintendent to serve for up to one year. This move will give the Board more time to seek broad community input into the vision and priorities for the next Superintendent and recruit a permanent Superintendent. The Board will also work concurrently in 2022-2023 to develop a district strategic plan with priorities and metrics to monitor and measure progress.
On June 10, the Board announced its selection of James Feil, Superintendent of the Montello School District, to serve as interim superintendent for the Manitowoc Public School District. Previous to serving at Montello, Feil was president of Urban Day School in Milwaukee and superintendent of Traverse City Area Public Schools in Traverse, MI.
MPSD Board President Stacey Soeldner said, "We are excited to have Jim joining our team. He will be able to lead Manitowoc Public Schools during this upcoming school year."

SUPERINTENDENT SEARCH TIMELINE

MAY 2022 

• The Board hired School Exec Connect to assist in hiring an interim superintendent.  
• School  Exec Connect's facilitator Dr. Joe Sheehan, served as Superintendent of the Sheboygan Area School District for 20 years and as Executive Director of the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation for the past 2.5 years.  Dr. Sheehan comes highly recommended by previous staff and volunteers in our district. 
• Dr. Sheehan met with the MPSD Board on May 18 to hear the qualities the Board seeks in an interim superintendent and potential priorities.
• Dr. Sheehan met with a focus group of 10 to 12 representatives of MPSD staff (including teachers, principals and district directors) the week of May 23 to get their input on qualities and priorities.  
• Please note:  The Board plans to seek input from all stakeholders  (including parents and families, the greater community, civic and business partners, etc.) in future months to help select a permanent Superintendent.   Stay tuned for future communication about community input opportunities.

• Applications for Interim Superintendent were due June 1, 2022.
• Dr. Sheehan screened candidates and recommended applicants for interviews.
• The Board interviewed candidates in closed sessions on June 2 and June 7 and offered the interim superintendent position to James Feil, current superintendent of the Montello School District.
• The Board at its June 14 meeting finalized Feil's contract, which began July 1, 2022.
