Madison Elementary to Host Legacy Celebration
Earlier this year, the Manitowoc Public School District announced that Madison Elementary School will close effective at the end of the school year. For generations, Madison has been a place where students learned, friendships were formed, and families gathered as part of a neighborhood school community.
To honor those memories and celebrate the impact Madison has had on students and families, the school will host a Legacy Celebration. This event will provide an opportunity for alumni, former staff, current families, and community members to reconnect, reflect, and celebrate the stories that make Madison special.
Join us for an open-house style event where guests can walk through the building, visit memory displays, connect with former classmates and staff, and celebrate the many years Madison has served the community.

Share a Madison Memory
As we prepare for Madison’s Legacy Celebration, we invite students, staff, alumni, and families to share their favorite Madison memories. Stories, photos, and memorabilia will help us celebrate the people and moments that made Madison special.
Memories and photos submitted may be included in a Madison Memory Book, which will be available at the Legacy Celebration (complimentary, while supplies last).
If you have memorabilia, such as photos, yearbooks, or special items connected to Madison, those items may also be displayed during the celebration to help tell the story of the school and the community it served.
Memory Submission Options
You can submit:
- A favorite memory (1–3 paragraphs)
- A photo (with a caption + year if possible)
- A scanned item (program, newsletter, class photo, etc.)
- Memorabilia (yearbooks, artwork, team or club items, event programs, keepsakes, and more)
Memorabilia Drop-Off: Items can be dropped off at Madison Elementary School’s main office during regular school hours.
If you would like your items returned, please indicate that at the time of drop-off.
Need a Little Inspiration?
You might start with one of these prompts:
- “My favorite Madison memory is…”
- “A Madison staff member who impacted me was…”
- “One word that describes Madison is… because…”
- “A tradition I’ll never forget is…”
Submissions will be accepted until April 6th.

Madison’s Building & Place in the Community
Madison Elementary has proudly served students and families since 1955, standing as an important part of the neighborhood and the Manitowoc Public School District.
For generations of Manitowoc families, Madison Elementary has been more than just a school. It has been a place where students learned, friendships grew, and families came together as part of a close-knit school community.
Within its classrooms and hallways, students have taken their first steps into learning while teachers and staff have supported and encouraged them along the way. The memories made at Madison will continue to live on through the many students, staff, and families who have been part of its story.
