RE: Academic Standards
2015 Wisconsin Act 55 requires identification of the academic standards adopted that will be in effect for the 2018-2019 school year by the Manitowoc Public School District, Wis. Stat. 120.12 (13) (a) and 120.12 (13) (b). Our mission statement states:
The Manitowoc Public School District commits to educate, engage and inspire all learners to thrive in a global community.
Standards serve as goals for teaching and learning. Setting high standards enables students, parents, educators, and citizens to know what students should have learned at a given point in time. Clear statements about what students must know and be able to do are essential to ensure that our schools offer opportunities to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for success. The MPSD is aligned to the following Academic Standards:
Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has Guiding Principles for Teaching and Learning based on research and best practices. The seven principles provide a framework for the MPSD.
-
Every student has the right to learn.
-
Instruction must be rigorous and relevant.
-
Purposeful assessment drives instruction and affects learning.
-
Learning is a collaborative responsibility.
-
Student bring strengths and experience to learning.
-
Responsive environments engage learners.
