Board Selects Thennes as MPSD Superintendent

The MPSD Board of Education is pleased to announce that Lee Thennes, a veteran MPSD teacher, principal and administrator, has been selected as the district's next Superintendent. The Board appointed Thennes as Interim MPSD Superintendent last September, and he was one of three finalists who interviewed last Friday with Board members and two panels composed of parents, staff, students and community members. The Board is finalizing its contract with Thennes and plans to vote on his hiring at its April 29 meeting.

Facilities Advisory Committee Reviews Long-Term Vision

A community Facilities Advisory Committee is meeting monthly from February 2025 through fall 2025 to develop recommendations to the Board of Education for a long-term district master facilities plan. Applications for the Superintendent position are due March 7, and the Board is planning to hold first-round interviews on March 25 and 27.

The MPSD Board of Education has placed a $25 million critical maintenance, building infrastructure, safety and security referendum on the April 1, 2025 ballot. District residents will vote on whether to allow MPSD to borrow up to $25 million to fund critical buildings and grounds needs, including many common projects across schools district-wide such as: Student pick-up, traffic and pedestrian safety improvements Electrical main services, emergency generators and fire alarm upgrades LED lighting and security cameras HVAC and plumbing systems Exterior tuckpointing, windows, roofs, doors, ceilings and floors Asphalt parking and concrete sidewalk repairs ADA - elevators, ramps and bathrooms
