Referendum

ALLThank you for your Referendum Support! The greater Manitowoc area is truly a wonderful place to raise a family and MPSD adds so many great opportunities for our youth to learn, grow, and thrive. MPSD has a rich tradition of providing expansive academic, arts, and athletic opportunities. We support not only students' academic achievement and college, career and life readiness, but also their social-emotional learning and wellness. On April 4th, 2023 MPSD residents voted by 52% of the vote to approve the five-year operating referendum.
We are deeply grateful for the community's support of education and we appreciate all of the staff and families who voted Tuesday. MPSD is committed to helping ALL students grow and achieve. This funding will help us continue to provide high-quality academic and extracurricular opportunities for ALL students.
The district and board will continue to advocate for changes to state funding formulas so MPSD and districts across the state will not need to rely on operational referendums to maintain programs and services. If the stat increases aid to district in the next five years, MSPD's board can opt to not use referendum dollars that are no longer needed.
THANK YOU again for your support of our district, staff, students and families.

WHY DO WE NEED ANOTHER OPERATING REFERENDUM?

Like many school districts, MPSD is being tightly squeezed by:

  • State funding freeze
  • Inflation
  • Loss of federal emergency funds
  • Competition for staff and students
  • State/Federal mandates
  • Low funded/low tax school district
  • Inequitable funding formula
